Police working in Bicester arrested two men for separate drug offences while on shift yesterday evening.

The two officers arrested the first man, who they described as a “lad”, after he failed a drugswipe test.

The motorist tested positive for both cocaine and cannabis while behind the wheel.

While the first man was in custody, the officers then assisted the Thames Valley Police Incident Crime Response (ICR) team in Bicester.

The team arrested a second man for drug supply charges and he also failed a drugswipe test for cocaine.

Cannabis is classified as a Class B drug while cocaine is considered Class A.

Under the law, it is illegal to drive if either:

  • you are unfit to do so because you’re on legal or illegal drugs
  • you have certain levels of illegal drugs in your blood (even if they have not affected your driving)

If you are convicted of drug driving you may get:

  • a minimum 1 year driving ban
  • an unlimited fine
  • up to 6 months in prison
  • a criminal record

Your driving licence will also show you have been convicted for drug driving. This will last for 11 years.

The maximum penalty for causing death by careless driving under the influence of drugs is life imprisonment.

The threshold limit in microgrammes per litre of blood is 10µg/L for cocaine and       2µg/L for cannabis.
