A new book of walks in and around Oxford has been backed by children's author Philip Pullman.
Oxford Pedestrians' Association (OxPA) was formed 11 years ago to encourage more people to walk in the city instead of using their cars, and campaigns to improve conditions for pedestrians.
The association is working with the cycling campaign group Cyclox to get 20mph zones on residential roads and in shopping areas.
OxPA's latest project is Oxford on Foot, a book of 10 walks around the city, being launched tomorrow at the Town Hall.
Association secretary Corinne Grimley Evans said: "In the 1970s, a keen walker called John Scott made detailed notes on four of his favourite walks describing 'Unknown Oxford', and his family donated them to us following his death earlier this year.
"We put these walks together with six favourite walks from our current members to make the book.
"Mike Hamand provided illustrations, while Alun Jones drew the maps.
"Philip Pullman, who enjoys walking around Oxford, kindly made a generous donation towards the project and we also got backing from Oxford Preservation Trust."
Mrs Grimley Evans said the walks varied in length between two and nine miles, and included details of pubs along the way.
Lord Mayor and OxPA member Susanna Pressel said: "Even people who know Oxford well will find something new and delightful in this wonderful book."
The book costs £6 from the tourist imformation centre in Broad Street or the OxPA website www.oxpa.org.uk
