On Wednesday, senior coroner Darren Salter said a post-mortem had been conducted but the cause of Mr Comley’s death ‘remains under investigation’.
The pensioner had been formally identified by a police constable using ‘photographic comparison’.
Opening the inquest, Mr Salter recorded that the victim was a single man who lived at Charlton Road, Wantage, at the time of his death. He was born in the town in 1939 and worked as a bricklayer.
A full inquest will be held on April 26 next year.
Following Mr Comley’s death, Thames Valley Police’s crash investigation team asked for any witnesses to the collision to come forward.
“If you were driving in the area and have dash-cam, I would urge you to please check this and get in touch if it has captured anything that may assist this investigation,” PC Julia Stroud said.
At the time, police said that the driver of the van was uninjured. No arrests had been made.
