AN event focusing on learning how to cook low-cost meals is to take place in Oxford this weekend.

Experts will teach participants at Oxford City Farm how to cook up low-cost meals and connect with people in their communities who might need support due to the cost of living crisis this winter.

The free event will include cooking demonstrations, food and drink, seasonal activities and a fire pit and is run in partnership with Cherwell Collective, a sustainable food bank with 3,000 members, who are also providing hot meals to anyone who needs it three times a week.

Molly Newberry, community network developer for Eden Project Communities, said: “With many of us facing a difficult winter, we want to bring the community together and encourage people to support each other through any tough times ahead.

“Food is such a brilliant way to connect – and bringing people together over a shared meal doesn’t need to be expensive.

“Whether you want to boost your culinary skills at our cooking class, warm up while having a chat around the fire, or simply enjoy some community spirit in the wonderful setting of Oxford City Farm, there’s something here for everyone.”

Emily Connally, founder of Cherwell Collective, said: "There's no better way to enrich a community than sharing collective skills, knowledge, and resources, so we're very excited to join Oxford City Farm and Eden Project Communities to extend our family even more."
