BUS ticket prices for young people in Witney and Carterton will be reduced starting from Monday (November 7).

West Oxfordshire Community Transport, who run bus services in the area, are reducing the price of most of their child fares to £1.

They are also extending the reduced fare to all passengers aged 25 and under.

Mike Parker, director of West Oxfordshire Community Transport, said: “It is rare at this time of rocketing inflation for a price to reduce but we want to encourage more children and families, and young people to use our services.

“Extending these cheap fares to those 25 and under will help many young people, and particularly students who these days not only can`t afford to run a car but have suffered particularly from rising costs.”

Duncan Enright, county councillor for Witney North and East, said: "I welcome this initiative. Young people in our area have suffered hugely from rising costs and this will encourage many to use these services to get around Witney and Carterton”

The £1 fare will apply to single journeys made by all passengers aged 25 and under travelling on routes 213, 214 and 215 in Witney and routes 345 and 355 in Carterton.

The child fare on route 210 which runs between the Wychwoods and Witney will remain at £2.25 but this fare will now apply to journeys made by all passengers on the 210 aged 25 and under
