Police and firefighters remain at the back of the old Fairmile Hospital in Cholsey after a man's naked body was discovered in a half submerged car in the River Thames.
Emergency services were called to the scene at 10.10am.
Police are not treating the incident as suspicious.
Andy Moyser, steward of Fairmile Sports and Social Club, the nearest building to the scene, said: "It's always a shock when this happens.
"When the hospital was open patients were often found in the river."
