The Highways Agency has made a U-turn on controversial plans to divert traffic from the A34 through Marcham.
It has now announced that the diversion route will go through Abingdon.
The work is likely to take place in July and will involve overnight closures of the northbound carriageway for a week and then the southbound.
When plans were announced to divert through Marcham, villagers were concerned about the safety of the scheme.
