A widower died from a bleed on the brain a day after he was discharged from – then readmitted to – hospital.
Oxford Coroner’s Court heard Robert Fernyhough, 88, of Knott Oaks, Combe, struck his head in a fall on September 24.
That was thought to have caused a small bleed on the brain and a slight stroke.
He was discharged from hospital but readmitted on September 30 after his condition worsened.
Mr Fernyhough was again allowed to leave hospital on October 3. The following day he was readmitted to the John Radcliffe Hospital and found to have a ‘very large’ bleed on the left side of his brain.
He died at 11.51pm on the day of his admission to the John Radcliffe.
The senior coroner for Oxfordshire, who opened Mr Fernyhough’s inquest, adjourned the case until March 15.
