A man was arrested by police after he was seen ‘acting suspiciously’ and trying to steal alcohol from a shop.

Thames Valley Police officers were called to High Street in Witney where the man was attempting to steal from a local shop.

The man was detained by officers who, upon inspection, found he had breached Section 24 of the Immigration Act.

This section of the act relates to illegal entry.

The law states that a person who knowingly enters the United Kingdom in breach of a deportation order commits an offence.  

The man was arrested and taken in to custody by the officers.
