Thousands of nervous runners joined the start line for this year’s Oxford Half Marathon which returned this morning.

Around 13,000 runners entered the race some in fancy dress.

The course is a flat 13.1 mile route that began at 9.30am in Broad Street and passes through Old Marston, down the River Cherwell, through the University of Oxford’s Lady Margaret Hall, before finishing in Parks Road.

Among the runners was Andrew Wensley, running for Special Effect, a charity which aims to enhance the lives of physically disabled people by helping them play video games.

Amedeo Callisto from the Oxford Craniofacial Unit was running for Oxford Hospitals Charity to raise money for local Oxfordshire hospitals.

Jamila Jamilova said: "I had an absolute blast today to support Oxford runners for charity! 45min for 5miles for now, gotta keep up with a half marathon goal!"
