Runners are getting ready for this year’s Oxford Half Marathon, which returns this weekend.

Around 13,000 runners will take part in the race on Sunday, October 16.

Over 7,200 newbies as well as seasoned runners signed up for the event in 2021.

The course takes in the dreaming spires and beautiful architecture of the city, passing landmarks such as Radcliffe Camera, the Sheldonian Theatre, the Bodleian Library and many Oxford University colleges.

Founded in 2010, it sees runners take on a flat 13.1 mile route that begins in Broad Street and passes through Old Marston, down the River Cherwell, through the University of Oxford’s Lady Margaret Hall, before finishing in Parks Road.

The Race Village in Oxford University Parks will offer plenty to do for the runners, friends and family, including street food, drinks and live bands and DJs.

Runners will also be entertained along the route by live music.

During the race, spectators can take a fans’ walking route and stop off at the two designated “fan hubs” located on Park Road and the north east corner of Oxford University Parks.

James Robinson, managing director of LimeLight Sports Club, said: “At LimeLight Sports Club, we want participants sweating for the causes that move them.

“Charities are at the heart of our races and our mission to create an active world together.

“Over 400 charities already use our races to raise funds to support their missions and services.”

Among the racers will be Pete Young, 33, a PhD student at the University of Oxford, who is raising money for Mind, a charity that works in Oxfordshire's local communities to help people with mental health problems.

And David and Lauren Pomeroy will be running to raise funds for Helen & Douglas House, off Cowley Road, who care for their son Finley, three.

He was diagnosed with Schinzel-Giedeon Syndrome, a very rare genetic disorder characterised by skeletal abnormalities and the obstruction of the tube that carries urine from the kidney to the bladder.

His parents are aiming to raise at least £1,000 for the hospice, which cares for terminally ill children and their families.

The race starts at 9.30am from Broad Street, Oxford.

There will be some road closures and parking suspensions over the weekend with all closures being removed by 6pm on Sunday.
