KYLE Joseph says he’ll play wherever across the Oxford United frontline as he continues to learn about the game during his loan spell with the club.

The 21-year-old striker, with the U’s from Swansea City until the end of the season, has scored three goals in 12 appearances since his move in August.

United head coach Karl Robinson has used Joseph as a traditional centre forward and on the wing, and even in a midfield role in the defeat at home to Wycombe Wanderers at the weekend.

Robinson said prior to kick-off on Saturday that Joseph would play in a midfield three alongside Cameron Brannagan and Marcus McGuane, but ended up playing more advanced, behind Matty Taylor.

Robinson added that Joseph played his best football while at Wigan Athletic, when being utilised in a number 10 role.

Joseph does have history in a more defensive position though, playing at right wing-back for both Swansea and while on loan at Cheltenham Town last season.

“As a number nine, you want to be playing up top but it’s good to have options to play across the front three,” Joseph said.

“That’s part of the reason for coming here, to get that experience playing games but also playing in a position where I can affect it even more.

“Sometimes as a nine you’re not going to affect it as much as you are if you’re on the wing or if you’re playing a bit deeper, but it’s all a new experience for me and it’s going to help me.”

Further benefitting Joseph is a close relationship with Taylor, both on and off the pitch, with the former feeding off the 32-year-old’s experience.

“Matty’s great to have on the pitch, he’s a leader and a good focal point for us as the nine,” said Joseph.

“It’s good competition, me and Matty are not necessarily fighting it out for the nine spot but he drives me and I drive him.

“It’s good to have that on the pitch in every position, I think that makes you better players but also brings you closer as a team.

“I’ve got a great relationship with Matty on and off the pitch, I feel like we compliment each other quite well.”

While happy with how quickly he has settled into life at United, Joseph promised fans they haven’t seen the best of him yet in a yellow shirt.

He said: “I’ve really enjoyed it since the first day I came in, I’ve been made to feel welcome and part of the family, and that’s all you can ask for.

“I’ve settled in really easily and settled in with all the lads.

“I can’t thank the club enough for what they’ve done for me while I’ve been here.

“I know there’s a lot more from me to come, and hopefully I’ll be able to show that in the next couple of games.”
