A teenager who raised more than £16,000 for the Oxford Children's Hospital has made it through to the final round for a national award.
The Oxford Mail reported last month that Andrew Baker had been nominated for Britain's Most Inspiring Fundraiser Award, organised by charity website everyclick.com The 19-year-old has now been contacted by the organisers and told he has made it through to the final round of judging.
Mr Baker, of King Walk, Didcot, said: "To make it through to the final round of judging is absolutely fantastic and I'm over the moon.
"I've been told that more than 500 people were entered for the competition, so to make it this far is quite an achievement.
"There are a lot of people out there that have done so many amazing things, I feel quite honoured."
Mr Baker started raising money for the charity in 2003, two years after undergoing life-saving surgery to remove a brain tumour at Oxford's Radcliffe Infirmary.
So far he has raised £16,100 towards the hospital's fund.
He said: "The winner of the prize gets £20,000 to give to the charity of their choice.
"Or course, I will be giving half of it to the children's hospital and the other half I will give to Help an Oxfordshire Child."
And he does not plan on stopping there. He is also busy arranging a second Play2Give six-a-side football tournament to follow up on the success of a competition last year.
He said: "Last year's event went really well and we raised £2,700 so I wanted to do it again this year.
"It's open to teams from businesses and groups but it is adults-only. Last year we had a real variety of teams and I'm looking to get 16 to 24 teams for this year.
"We will also be donating some of the proceeds to the charity campaign fund for Abingdon New Amateur Boxing Club, which needs to raise £200,000."
A spokesman for every- click.com said: "Andrew has shown real character in overcoming adversity and we felt that he deserved to progress to the next stage of judging.
"There is some stiff competition but he stands a very good chance of being named Britain's Most Inspiring Fundraiser."
The closing date to enter teams for Play2Give is Monday, June 30, and costs £30 per team.
