Leaving Abingdon, heading towards Ock Street, I passed the 'monk' on the roundabout, only to realise that there was something on the road.
Some cars were driving over it, some were driving around it.
It looked like a black folder, maybe containing a laptop, that sort of size anyway.
I decided to drive around it, but being a self-confessed nosey person, it bothered me as to what it was and what it contained.
So I returned, stopped on the roundabout - not a very safe thing to do - put on my hazard warning lights, jumped out of my car, picked up the folder and got out of everyone's way as quickly as I could.
Arriving home, I opened the folder to see if there was a business card or name so that I could return it to the owner.
It belonged to Thames Valley Police. I drove to the police station and handed it in.
The man on duty said the police officer, who had lost, it had been looking for it, realising that she had mislaid it.
He took my name and phone number as he thought she would like to phone to say thank you for handing it in so promptly, considering as well what it contained.
Five days on, no-one has telephoned to say thank you.
Am I being just old-fashioned - or have manners really gone out of the window?
It makes you think twice about doing the right thing next time.
Manners - that is all it is.
