Fears the Oxfordshire Young Farmers' annual rally would be a washout because of torrential rain this morning were lifted when the sun finally came out.

Rally chairman Guy Champion said: "The rain was dreadful and there was no-one about.

"But it stopped in the afternoon and people started flocking in.

"We had more than 1,500 inside the showground at one point and that made all the effort of staging it very worthwhile."

Attractions at the showground in Middleton Stoney, near Bicester, included vintage farm machinery, chainsaw sculptors, a fairground, tug-of-war contest, craft and trade tents, country pursuit exhibitions and members of the county's Young Farmers' Club showing off skills including drystone walling.
