Wantage and Didcot MP Ed Vaizey quizzed the Dalai Lama on the ongoing tensions between Tibet and China when he visited Parliament this week.
Mr Vaizey asked Tibet's spiritual leader whether supporters of a free Tibet should make their views known at the Olympic Games in Beijing later this summer.
He said: "The Dalai Lama was quite clear - people should use the Olympics to remind the Chinese, in a measured and peaceful way, of the desire of Tibet for political autonomy."
His holiness is expected to visit Oxford later this month during his short tour of the UK.
