You report that pollution is being caused by engines left running in Oxford (Oxford Mail, April 29).
Under the Environmental Protection Act 1990, vehicle owners are required to prevent emissions into the atmosphere.
Abatement notices can be served to stop statutory nuisances such as smoke, fumes, gases, dust, steam and smell.
Failure to comply is a criminal offence under the Act.
It is clear that owners and drivers of taxis, delivery vehicles and buses are unaware of the legal consequences of continually polluting Oxford streets.
