City councillor John Goddard's letter, City input on traffic vital (Oxford Mail, May 6) is a bit rich.

The electorate have given him the thumbs down as leader of the city council so here he is wanting to run the transport system!

That is the county council's job, and I think we are making a pretty good fist of it.

We will shortly be making the three park-and-rides previously managed by the city council free to use.

That would never have happened if the city had hung on to them.

If Mr Goddard wants to run the transport system, he will need to get himself elected to the county council, as part of the majority group.

I have always found it takes two to tango.

We do roads, schools, social care, libraries, waste disposal, fire and rescue, trading standards and registration.

The city council does housing, planning, recreation and collects the council tax for all of us.

If Mr Goddard feels the city should be able to set transport policy in the city, perhaps the county should be able to influence city housing policy or recreation.

I see plenty of talk about take in Mr Goddard's letter, but not much about give.

Perhaps it is as well someone else will be running the city council post the elections!
