Stonesfield Primary School has launched a £30,000 fundraising appeal for a building in memory of former county councillor and school governor Brian Hodgson, who lived in the village.
School numbers have risen from 97 in 2000 to the current 161 pupils and more space is needed, says headteacher Gwyn Griffiths.
Work on the new Brian Hodgson Education Suite is expected to finish by the start of the new school year in September.
Ms Griffiths added: "Brian was enormously committed to the development of the school and its pupils and we are delighted to be able to remember him in this way."
