A nightmare neighbour has avoided a prison sentence for breaching an antisocial behaviour order weeks after it was imposed.

Shannon Ryan, 26, of Daisy Bank, Abingdon, was yesterday given a suspended sentence by Didcot magistrates for breaching the order last year.

The Asbo was imposed following complaints from neighbours, who said Ryan launched torrents of abuse, hurled beer cans out of windows and played loud music throughout the night.

The mother-of-four, who is unemployed, admitted that six weeks after the Asbo was imposed in September, she broke its conditions and shouted and swore at officers called to her home.

Ryan was also ordered to complete 100 hours of community work and given a six-month supervision order. Court costs were reduced from £770 to £100.

She had been warned by magistrates she could be jailed. Neighbours were upset that Ryan walked free from court.

One, who did not want to be named, said after the case: "She has made our lives a misery. The justice system has failed.

"The sentence wasn't enough for our three years of suffering."

He added: "She was making noise all the time, slamming the door, shouting, playing music.

"We couldn't invite family round for visits because of the noise."

  • Two further alleged breaches by Ryan of her Asbo, alleged to have taken place in March and which she has denied, were set down for trial on July 8.
