I agree with Richard Moss (Oxford Mail, April 22) that the newly-improved crossroads junction in Windmill Road, Headington, Oxford, is a masterpiece of incompetence.
He describes it as a free-for-all.
Ian Hudspeth, the county council's cabinet member for transport, has introduced some exciting new elements of danger to liven up the previously dull junction. Bang, slap in the middle of the crossroads are newly painted markings for turning left and right.
These markings are strategically placed directly in the line of oncoming traffic.
To maximise the entertainment, Mr Hudspeth has a vehicle recognition camera training its sights on the danger zone. This can keep watch over the game of dodgem cars, or demolition derby if things get out of hand.
It is probably a good thing for the residents of Headington that Mr Hudspeth's department has recently had a budget cut.
