Sir - While it is good to know that Martin Thomas has sent his last letter on the subject of the re-organisation of the city's schools in 2001, given his most recent comments (May 9), he cannot be allowed to have the last word.
The governors of Oxford Community School need no 'sympathy' as they are proud to be involved with a fully comprehensive 11-18 school serving the East Oxford community and producing the seventh highest added value achievement scores in the county.
It seems that I also have to repeat that our recent move to becoming a school with Foundation status gives us no additional funding whatsoever, and although giving governors some more flexibilities, in no way detracts from our full commitment to being an Oxfordshire County Council state school from whom we have been pleased to receive much excellent support in the past and with whom we are pleased to continue to work in the future.
Frank Newhofer, Chairman of governors, Oxford Community School
