Sir - The article in the Country Matters pages last week (May 9) about Oxford Urban Wildlife Group's 20th anniversary also included a section about a proposed wildlife survey of Cripley Island.
The wording used implied that the island might be cleared and used as allotments.
I am assured by Wendy Skinner Smith, the chairman of Cripley Meadow Allotment Association, that they have no intention of clearing the site for 'allotments'.
The allotment association has been offered the tenancy to develop it as an orchard, supported by managed native planting.
Janet Keene, Oxford Urban Wildlife Group secretary, Southmoor
