Sir - In the hard-fought election in Charlbury a disturbing seam in local politics was revealed.
Prominent leaflets by the Conservative candidate Mrs Hill told the electorate that it was vital for them to elect a Conservative for a voice that really counted in the district council.
The way WODC has run our affairs has concerned many, not because it is Conservative led, but because the dominance of the cabinet in making decisions coupled with the lack of independent chairing of the scrutiny committees.
This leads not just to suspicion that errors go unchecked, but that the threat contained in Mrs Hills leaflet is all too real.
It is well known that Charlbury was a Conservative target seat as Mr Cameron was frequently seen canvassing. I trust this nasty turn in local politics is without his backing, perhaps he should tell us.
