PEOPLE are being asked for their views on plans to bring 20mph speed limits to two Oxfordshire towns.

Oxfordshire County Council, the highways authority, wants to “make residential areas safer and more attractive places to walk and cycle”.

As a result, it hopes to introduce 20mph speed restrictions in Abingdon and the Ladygrove area of Didcot to “help promote alternative modes of transport for local travel”.

Consultations are currently taking place for the two areas and the authority is seeking the views of residents, businesses, commuters, and visitors before the decisions are made.

The Abingdon proposals involve replacing the majority of existing 30mph speed limits on the main residential roads – those bounded by the ring road and those south of the River Ock – with 20mph limits.

Additionally, the existing 40mph speed limits on the ring road would be reduced to 30mph.

The Didcot proposals are to bring in 20mph speed limits throughout the Ladygrove area – those roads lying north and east of the railway line – to replace existing 30mph limits.

New roads within the Willowbrook Park development north of the A4130 accessed via Franklin Gardens will also be included, along with both Copse View and Oakend Lea.

The remaining roads in Didcot south of the railway line would be unaffected.
