Sir - I read with great interest the brilliant article on Dr Ann McPherson by Reg Little (Feature, May 2). Although not a patient of hers, I used to see Dr McPherson cycling to the surgery, usually in a rush, she was always cheerful.
A few years ago I suffered from a brain tumour, this was successfully removed by the neurosurgeon Mr Richard Kerr. Dr McPherson and Mr Kerr are the silent giants of the NHS. They are the columns that support this institution.
Without their devotion many of us would suffer more, and I for one would not be here today. I would like to add my wishes to the long list of people for which without the passion and support given by doctors like Dr Ann McPherson, the NHS would be the poorer.
Liliane Morton, Chadlington
