Sir - You kindly published my earlier letter for a purpose-built concert hall and arts centre to replace the most uncomfortable Sheldonian.
Now we have the Jericho boatyard site, close to St Barnabas Church, which hosts smaller recitals.
What an opportunity for a concert hall there. Spring Residential's plan for 54, one- and two-bedroom apartments has not been approved by the Jericho residents. How much better it would be to build a canal-side concert hall and gallery, with fewer flats to increase its viability. Keeping the publish square, boatyard and lifting bridge access to St Barnabas and Walton Street. What a unique and magnificent setting for music and art in Oxfordshire.
The developers would have their apartments (albeit fewer) and the boaters their boatyard in Jericho and repair yard in Yarnton. How soon can we make this a reality and listen to music in the comfort of a modern hall.
