AN Oxfordshire woman will be making history at this year's Le Mans race by entering as one half of the first known husband and wife team.

TV presenter Amanda Stretton, a mother-of-two from Beckley, will take part in the 24-hour race in June, and will be partnering her husband Bob Berridge.

It will also be the first time a British woman has competed in the LMP1 class, which is the event's top category.

She told The Independent: "I suspect there might be one or two arguments between us during the race, as neither one of us likes being told what to do."

In August 2005, Ms Stretton raced in the Le Mans Endurance at Silverstone and walked away unharmed from a 140mph crash.

The 24-hour race ended early because of heavy rain, but not before her car, a LMP1 prototype, span out of control and smashed into a wall.
