The emergency services have hailed this morning's May Day operation a success despite four people jumping off Magdalen Bridge.
Police and Oxford city and Oxfordshire county councils closed the bridge this morning to prevent a repeat of the 2005 event when 100 revellers jumped in to the Cherwell.
They reopened the route at 6.30am and within minutes four men had jumped off. None of the jumpers were injured.
Chief Insp Chris Sharp, of Oxford police, said it had been a "successful operation" involving 25 police officers.
Nick Vannozzi, who headed the operation for South Central Ambulance, said: "There were less than half a dozen people who jumped but fortunately no-one was seriously injured.
"Two people were treated for cuts and bruises after getting into the River Cherwell from the banks."
He estimated 7,000 people had gathered to hear the Magdalen College choir sing the Hymnus Eucharisticus at the top of the college tower.
Mr Vannozzi added: "Everyone enjoyed themselves.
"Compared to 2005 this was a very enjoyable event and goes to show people can still enjoy themselves."
