It is admirable to oppose cruelty to animals or birds, but I think people concerned at the suffering of the caged peafowl in Mircea Cantor's exhibit at Modern Art Oxford are perhaps being a little over sensitive (Oxford Mail, April 25).

When I visited, the birds certainly did not look distressed.

They looked somewhat bored, as indeed I was by this rather uninspiring installation.

It would be better to show concern for the many millions of intensively reared chickens, turkeys and ducks in British factory farms, who are treated with unremitting cruelty throughout their short lives.
