Sir - We have recently had two weeks of school holidays in Oxford. Roads calm and quiet and much safer for pedestrians and cyclists.

This week, the roads around schools are filled with cars taking fit and healthy children to school, and clogging up side roads and pavements while parents do the school drop. Too often the standard of driving is poor and little care taken of the needs of other road users.

Perhaps, if a child lives within walking distance from a school, that is the school they should attend, and they should walk or cycle there. This would solve some traffic problems and some of the school selection problems.
