Does it annoy you to see more holes being dug in our roads, pavements and verges, only for the work to stop, without explanation to residents or road users, who are inconvenienced?
Then it's time for retaliation.
Before utility or other companies can legally disturb our road surfaces, they must carry an approved county council authority document.
So, if you see workers turn up to start digging up your road, ask to see this document.
If they cannot or will not produce it, ask the county council to attend and demand a viewing.
If the diggers cannot produce it, the council has the power to demand that holes already dug are filled in and made good, at the diggers' expense.
This was explained on TV and it was stated that 90-95 per cent of holes dug in this country do not have the correct county council documentation.
We, the taxpaying public, are expected to adhere to all nationally and locally derived laws, no matter how pathetic they may be, so it's only fair to expect these companies and county councils to do likewise.
