HUNDREDS of Russian Orthodox Christians gathered at an Oxford church to celebrate the Orthodox Easter - a month after protestant and Roman Catholic congregations marked the event.
Members of the Russian Orthodox community held the service at the Roman Catholic Holy Rood Church in Abingdon Road as the Russian Orthodox church does not currently have a permanent base.
The date of Easter is calculated differently by the Orthodox and Roman Catholic and Protestant churches - and this year was the biggest difference between the two dates possible.
Emily Fernandos, 15, was among those marking the most important date in the Orthodox calendar.
Father Stephen Platt said: "It is very moving and beautiful because we make the church as beautiful as possible, everything is filled with flowers and there is very beautiful singing."
About 15 different nationalities were represented and the greetings and gospel were said in a number of different languages.
