THE train station in Oxford was eerily quiet this morning (September 19) on the day of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth’s funeral.
Extra train services were put in place for mourners travelling to London throughout the week to watch the funeral which started at 10am.
However, a few last-minute commuters were starting their journeys to the capital today to pay their respects to the late monarch who passed away peacefully in Balmoral at the start of the month (September 8).

Three sisters, with one being from Oxford, were travelling together to watch the procession.
While rushing up the stairs to Park End Street station, they said: “We’re prepared. We’ve got lunch, chairs and our tickets.
“We’ll be watching the procession at Hyde Park and then heading over to Windsor Castle.
“It is such an historic occasion. She never got it wrong. She was one a kind and I don’t think we’ll ever see another monarch like her.”
Will Ledford and Aitana Canales were travelling to London for other purposes but decided to watch the procession anyway.
Mr Ledford, who is from America, said: “I don’t feel too much if I’m honest but it’ll be interesting observing at others who are British.

“It’s a very big day for many people. I’ll remember her as having a strong hand in foreign policies and someone who knew what they were doing with world leaders.”
The rest of the city centre was also silent with streets deserted on the bank holiday.
