Climate change has not affected the annual flowering of the Snake's Head fritillary in an Oxfordshire field.

The annual display came on time again this year and has attracted several hundred people to see them in their glory in a waterside meadow close to the parish church in Ducklington, near Witney.

The village has turned the flowers into an attraction - with an annual festival, which took place last week, to raise money for the repair of the parish church bells.

Patsy Hughes, one of the organisers, said: "The field was covered with them this year. It's more than I've ever seen and they still come out regularly on time."

Today, the event includes morris dancing, music and teas and money goes to the St Bartholomew Church fabric fund.

The Rev Bob Edy, priest in charge, said: "Our fritillary field is one of the few remaining meadows where the flowers thrive, and where it is even possible to walk among them."
