The installation of CCTV cameras in Oxford's Cowley Road was delayed again tonight after councillors sent plans back to the drawing board.

Members of the city's East Area Parliament discussed a scheme to install four wireless cameras to helpfight crime.

However, they were unhappy at a report. Councillors refused to commit to a scheme unless it was on a trial basis where the surveillance cameras could be taken down at any time. No date has been fixed for when the topic would be discussed again.

Vice chairman Craig Simmons said: "We should not go through with this system unless we know we have the power to remove this CCTV (at any time) and until we have current crime data to compare it with after a year."
