Sir - Following your article last week in which you confused two local orchestras, may I make it clear that The Oxford Sinfonia (as opposed to the English Sinfonia) continues to give concerts mainly at the University Church of St Mary's, as it has done every year since it was founded in 1984.
It is an amateur orchestra of the highest standard and one of the most enterprising local ensembles, known for its popular and innovative programmes with soloists and conductors of national and international standing.
Our next concert in the regular series at St Mary's is on Saturday, April 26, at 8pm - wind soloists from the orchestra present classic pieces of wind chamber music by Haydn, Gounod, Soler, Hummel and Strauss including the premiere of Reflections', a new commission from Guy Woolfenden, who also conducts.
On the same night (!) the full orchestra is also playing The Lark Ascending, Le Tombeau de Couperin and Mozart's great Mass in C minor at Deddington church under the baton of Janet Lince.
Simon Payne, Chairman, The Oxford Sinfonia, Abingdon
