DJ Robin Mitchell has vowed to revisit the era of glam rock and flares at a reunion of his old school pals.

Mr Mitchell launched his DJ career aged 11 with school disco gigs for classmates at Redefield Secondary School, in Blackbird Leys.

On Saturday the 50-year-old will return to the tunes of Donny Osmond, David Cassidy and T-Rex to provide a night of nostalgia for former pupils of the Cuddesdon Way school.

Mr Mitchell, who now lives in Edinburgh Drive, Kidlington, is one of up to 100 former pupils who turn or turned 50 this year and will be at the reunion.

The self-confessed former tearaway - who has continued to spin the discs to the present day - said new technology means he can set the music to play and mingle rather than manning the decks full time, as in the past.

Mr Mitchell, who lived in Evenlode Tower while he was at the school, said: "It will be a blast from the past. The old school discos were very good. Never any trouble and there was always dancing - not like these days where the youngsters cannot be bothered to dance half the time."

Mr Mitchell added: "I was a bit of a tearaway. We used to bunk off and meet up Blackbird Leys Bridge for a set-to with Peers School - that sort of thing.

"On Bonfire Night and Halloween night we would always be jumping over people's gardens banging on the windows at midnight.

"Some of the teachers were strict and used to chuck the blackboard rubber at you if you were naughty.

"But whenever the headteacher Mr Lewis came in to the school disco we put on this tune, Chirpy Chirpy Cheep Cheep, by Middle Of The Road, and we used to sing it to him - with the lyrics changed."

Former pupils at the school, which is now part of Oxford and Cherwell Valley College, will travel from as far away as Spain, Canada and the USA for the reunion.

Organiser Agatha Harris, who lived in Windrush Tower while at the school, said: "We have sold 75 tickets, but we have got another 30 available."
