What a disturbing report, Flood action not worth it (Oxford Mail, April 15).
It would appear that those residents of Oxford and Oxfordshire, whose homes were flooded last summer, have to band together and protect their properties from future flooding themselves, with little or no help from either the council or the Environment Agency, least of all in monetary terms.
The Mail's inside comment mentioned that the grand plan to spend £100m over the next seven years for flood protection seemed to have died a death.
I remember last year that the city council's share of flood relief money donated by the Government amounted, if correct, to a paltry £50,000.
It's ironic that Gordon Brown has promised £100m to Africa for mosquito nets and, a while ago, £50m to China for green technology.
I am sure the flood victims would appreciate a slice of that.
Whatever happened to "I will serve the British people", as Gordon Brown said at his coronation?
I am sure our leader comes out with these promises of aid on the spur of the moment to look good in the eyes of the world, without a thought of where the money's coming from.
No wonder any popularity he had has waned.
