There is no doubt that some buskers do get up people's noses at times.
Workers in Oxford city centre in particular have complained at the incessant din and repetitive repertoire of certain street performers.
But aren't we in danger of turning Oxford into a non-musical oasis?
We agree that certain rules and regulations are needed. But those introduced by the city council are pretty draconian.
No wonder some buskers have already decided not to come here again.
Unlike many towns and cities, Oxford has a tradition of welcoming buskers with all sorts of talents.
It will be a pity if the best performers vanish from the scene, and all we are left with are the tuneless wonders.
