THE call has gone out again for more retained firefighters to cover west Oxfordshire.
While there is a general shortage across the county, there is a particular need for day cover at Witney, Bampton and Burford stations.
Nick Bateman, Witney station manager, said: "There are fewer people these days working during the day in Bampton and Burford.
"That's just a fact, but of course, it makes it more difficult for us to get people trained and ready to get from their workplace to the station in a quick response time."
The Witney station maintains two fire crews while Bampton and Burford have one each.
A new recruitment drive is under way, with an open evening being held at Witney fire station today, from 7pm to 8pm.
