RESIDENTS made a citizen's arrest after a teenager stole a van and then crashed it into a garden wall in Oxford.
Police said the incident occurred shortly after 4am yesterday when it is alleged the 17-year-old boy took the van from a house in Seacourt Road, Botley.
Vicki Brandon, a spokesman for Oxford Police: "A youth was arrested at the scene in connection with a burglary and is still being questioned in custody."
Andrew Chapman, 52, an IT manager who lives in Seacourt Road, said: "It was about 4.15am and I heard this huge bang and people came out of their houses including the owner of the van.
"Two men, including the van owner, grabbed the driver and held on to him while someone called the police."
Mr Chapman said: "My wall has been seriously damaged and it will take a while to rebuild it," he added. "I expect I will be claiming the cost back on the insurance."
