CHARLBURY railway station car park could be extended if work to reinstate double track on the Cotswold Line gets the go-ahead.
Speaking at a public meeting, attended by senior First Great Western and Network Rail managers, Nick Potter, the town council chairman, suggested that spoil from track work could be used to build up the ground level of adjacent former allotments to provide extra parking spaces.
Dave Ward, Network Rail's western route director, welcomed the idea and said he would ask the redoubling project team to consider it.
The former allotments site is owned by British Railways Board (Residuary), a public body which deals with surplus railway land. Witney MP David Cameron said he would contact the Rail Minister, Tom Harris, to see if it could be made available.
