With green issues dominating much of the political agenda, it was inevitable that events like the Lord Mayor's Parade in Oxford would follow suit.
It will be a blow to traditionalists not to have the Lord Mayor travelling in the mayoral car or on an open-top bus, followed by lorry-driven floats.
But the truth is the parade has been unimpressive in recent years.
Every Lord Mayor has his or her idea of how it should be organised - and full marks to the new incumbent, Susanna Pressel, for trying something new.
