Icknield Community College (Watlington) ended a 21-year wait for glory with a dramatic penalty shoot-out victory over St Birinus (Didcot) in the Vale of White Horse Under 13 Cup final at Letcombe.

The 4-3 success on spot-kicks was the school's first triumph in any Vale competition since they lifted the same cup in 1987.

It came after a thrilling encounter finished 3-3 after extra time, with Icknield fighting back from the jaws of defeat in normal time.

Goals in each half from Joe Parish and Chris de Silva saw St Birinus lead 2-0 with six minutes left.

But then Sam Short pulled one back and Billy Cooper equalised with three minutes left.

Oxfordshire Cup winners St Birinus regained the lead in the first period of extra time when Michael McKieran headed home a corner.

But Cooper grabbed his second to force a penalty shoot-out.

Icknield keeper Josh Cockerell saved the first spot-kick and with St Birinus also hitting the bar, successful penalties from James McGraw, Adam Muttitt, Short and Cooper gave the Watlington lads the cup.

CRAIG Duncan's fifth-minute strike gave Wallingford a 1-0 win over Matthew Arnold (Cumnor) in the Vale of White Horse Under 16 Cup final at Letcombe.

Duncan caught the Matthew Arnold defence cold when he sidefooted the ball home from close range.

It was a hard-fought encounter, which occasionally became over-competitive resulting in five players being shown yellow cards.
