Like most people in this country, I usually take what Labour ministers say with a truck full of salt.
However, Communities Secretary Hazel Blears has outdone herself this time.
For one of the most partisan, and frankly vacant, Government ministers of all time, that in itself is no mean achievement.
In a hamfisted attempt to talk about regeneration, she manages to offend an entire area of Oxford (Oxford Mail, April 5).
Then, in an even more hamfisted attempt to dig herself out of it, she attacks political opponents rather than simply apologise to those she has offended.
Most amusingly, she attacks the Lib Dem administration's record on regenerating our estates.
I know I should not expect facts to get in the way of mindless Government pronouncements, but let's look at the reality nonetheless.
After two years in minority control, at which her beloved Labour Party could have taken control of the council at any point, if they had the bottle, real improvements have been made.
It took Labour almost a decade to get any ideas for Rose Hill off the ground.
It took the Lib Dems only 18 months to start building much-needed homes.
We made a pledge to start work on the ground by the start of 2008.
We kept it.
Contrast that with years of Labour promises to residents that led nowhere.
What about the area I represent?
There are now more police on the street, better facilities and new affordable homes, not to mention much-needed renovation to Barton's housing.
Most importantly, much of the drive for improvement has come from community activists, supported by (you guessed it!) Lib Dem councillors.
This is the future model for regeneration - community inspired and led, with local government in a supporting role.
Of course, there is plenty more to do.
However, regenerating our estates is too important to be left to mindless Labour ministers and their partisan hackery.
We Lib Dems know the challenges Oxford faces and have started making real improvements after decades of Labour neglect.
Perhaps another hamfisted apology from the hamfisted minister is in order?
