The Highways Agency today issued a warning to drivers to take extra care in snow showers expected to hit Oxfordshire over the weekend.
The Met Office has predicted a cold northerly wind will bring snow to the county tonight with showers of sleet and snow expected to carry on into Monday.
The Highways Agency is advising motorists to: Check local and national weather forecasts before deciding whether the journey is necessary.
Allow extra room to slow down and stop. It can take ten times longer to stop in icy conditions.
Use the highest gear possible to avoid wheel spin.
If you start to skid, gently ease off the accelerator and apply the brake gently, not suddenly.
Not to overtake snow ploughs by squeezing into partially cleared lanes.
Put warm clothes, food, water, boots, de-icer, a torch and spade into your vehicle in case of a breakdown.
