Sir - In his Gray Matter column (March 21), Chris Gray wrote about the car park in Walton Well Road, Oxford.
As he says, this car park was provided for the use of people visiting Port Meadow, but it is being misused by rail commuters and for the long-term parking of cars with no resident's permit, so that there is rarely room for anyone else.
I have been trying for about ten years to get the city council to control this car park. Just this month they have at last started to consult the public on how they intend to do this. The proposal is that people will be allowed to park there for up to four hours free of charge, if they display a parking ticket. They must not return within 24 hours of leaving. We hope that this will solve the problem.
