Life begins at 20 for children in seven busy Oxford streets after residents secured a 10mph speed limit cut.
Residents in Wytham Street, South Oxford, and six offshoot roads are celebrating after Oxfordshire County Council agreed to reduce the speed limit from 30mph to 20mph.
The decision, made at County Hall on Thursday , comes after a public meeting at which residents showed support for the new speed limit.
Wytham Street resident Carol Califano, 41, said: "There are a lot of families here with small children, so I think this will be a popular decision among residents."
The council received letters of support for the scheme from 12 residents, New Hinksey Primary School, Cyclox, Oxford Pedestrian Association and the Life begins at 20 group. Two objections were received.
The 20mph speed limit will also cover Norreys Avenue, Sunningwell Road, Lincoln Road, Monmouth Road, Northampton Road and Oswestry Road.
