The person hit by a train between Banbury and Oxford yesterday as she used an unmanned crossing has been identified as a local woman pensioner.
British Transport Police were called to Tackley station, near Bicester, about 3.15pm after the woman was hit by the 7.33 CrossCountry service travelling from Dundee to Bournemouth.
Today Tackley parish councillor Father Robin Gibbons identified the victim as Margaret Evans, a villager in her eighties.
Father Gibbons said Mrs Evans may have been crossing the path in Nethercote Road to catch the 3.20 train and failed to hear the train driver sounding the horn.
British Transport Police issued a statement which said: "The driver of the 0733 from Dundee to Bournemouth reported striking an elderly woman on the foot crossing at the south end of Tackley station. The death is not being treated as suspicious."
The incident caused disruption for passengers, with normal rail services restored by 5pm.
BTP spokesman Stephen Wrelton added: "A report is now being prepared the coroner."
